Tiffany blue decorated vases are much rarer than similarly decorated gold vases. And among blue vases there are great variations. This example is one of the best I've had the pleasure to offer for sale in quite some time.

First the blue is intense - always a good place to start. Then the green hearts and vines contrast beautifully with the background. Now for the form, which is classically elegant. It's a winning vase.

The picture-perfect signature 6443M Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces Inc. Favrile indicates it was made post 1919, under the new direction of Douglas Nash. The form and color were perfected by that time.

I've sold many Tiffany Studios Favrile blue vases, but I can't remember when I had one with such intense color and great contrasting green hearts & vines. I can't even call it blue -- it's more indigo -- just fabulous and big, 12¼". Signed. Mint condition. You couldn't ask for a finer example.

This Tiffany Favrile model comes in gold or blue.  Blue is by far the rarer and more desirable variation.  This superior example has great color and iridescence, with a bit of sparkling goldstone in the leaves.  5¾" tall.  Signed.  Mint condition except for a tiny nick on the underside of the bulbous portion (only mentioned for accuracy.)

Just got four fabulous vases from a private collection. This wonderful Tiffany Favrile example has rare hearts and vines decoration, with really great color and iridescence.  The sudden color change is reminiscent of lava decoration.  The decoration is full and goes completely around the vase.  For the best collections.  5¼" tall. Just got four fabulous vases from a private collection. This special Tiffany Favrile example is fully decorated with dark and light blue King Tut decoration, sometimes called Damascene.  As with the other vases from this group, the color and iridescence are superb. This Tiffany Favrile mini vase is a real honey. 2¾" tall with superb King Tut decoration on very dark green to blue. Great iridescence. Signed. Mint condition.

Millifiori is Italian for "a thousand flowers".  It's used to describe the floral decoration that is applied with glass canes.  Tiffany didn't do this decoration often, so it's moderately rare, and much more so because of the dark green background.  The rolled rim is another virtue.  This 3" mini vase is an outstanding example.  Signed.  Mint condition except for a tiny burst bubble (that is visible in the second photo.)  It's unimportant and listed only for accuracy.

Tiffany Favrile millifiori vases are rare and desirable.  They're usually found on a gold background.  That's what makes this example so special -- the colors are unique and fabulous.  Millifiori (thousand flowers) decoration was done with glass canes that were applied to the molten vase.  It's a great technique that wasn't used often.  This example also has extensive leaf and vine decoration. It's an important vase for the best collections.  5" tall.  Signed.  Mint condition.

I've owned this shape in Tiffany before (see vase #51255 below), but only once in this wonderful mini size, 7¼" tall.  The color and iridescence are spectacular.  Signed.  Mint condition.

I've owned this same model before.  What I've noticed is that each is consistently fine with iridescent hearts & vines on an iridescent ground shading from blue to deep indigo at the base.  3" tall x 3½" diameter.  Signed.  Mint condition.

Tiffany made more than a few examples of this vase.  It was very popular when it was new and it still is.  The difference is that this example is as good as it gets.  The color is a 10.  The strong blue shades down to deep indigo at the base.  2¾" tall.  Signed.  Mint condition.  (#50812)

It's difficult to tell you how special this vase is, but I'll try. 

First, it's unique. It's got the fanciest signature and date of production, Feb. 15th, 1898 -- an incredible rarity. It's also signed by Louis Tiffany in his own hand, Louis C. Tiffany. The fancy engraving at the top has two initials before Tiffany that are difficult to read because the initials are so fancy, but they don't appear to be L.C. Perhaps they're a relative's initials, which would indicate Louis Tiffany gave the vase as a gift.

The workmanship is beautiful and special. It has chain-type iridescent decoration around the top third of vase. Below that it's pinched in three sections, creating indentations that make it easy to hold. It's a stunning vase, in a perfect cabinet size of 7¾". Mint condition.

Museum-quality, for the best collections!

The workmanship on this lovely Tiffany Favrile blue vase is a cut above the usual. The applied ribs were pinched when the vase was being formed -- no easy trick. Nice size at 5¼". Signed. Mint condition.

This shape is referred to as an inverted trumpet. It's not a rare shape, but it is rare to find it in blue, with a pulled feather decoration. It's a very nice example, in a mid-size, 10". (This shape comes in smaller and larger examples.)  Signed. Mint condition.

This is a classic Tiffany vase in a great, strong blue color with very nice ribbing.  Good size at 11½".  Signed.  Mint condition.  (#51255)

Tiffany named vases with a decorated applied collar Tel el Amarna, after the ancient city in Egypt. They were produced in gold, green, blue and red. Red is the rarest color and blue is next.

This stupendous example has exquisite blue color with purple highlights. It comes with an original gilded bronze base. The foot of the vase has been ground by Tiffany to a button that fits perfectly into its bronze foot. It's signed L.C.T. at the bottom of the button and TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK underneath the bronze base.

Blue Tiffany Favrile glass is rarer and more desirable than gold Favrile glass. This example has intense blue-purple color. The better the blue, the better the vase. It's a nice, large trumpet vase, 14" tall, with pronounced ribbing. If you like blue Tiffany Favrile glass, this example is for you. Signed. Excellent condition.

There is no acid-etching in this fabulous padded and wheel-carved vase.  All of the detail was hand-carved by the most skilled craftsmen. It required exceptional skill to achieve this level of beauty. The flowers and leaves have beautiful color and a level of detail only obtainable from hand-carving.

Important museum-quality cameo vase with padded and wheel-carved leaves and grapes. There is no acid etching in this vase. This is a labor-intensive vase with all of the detail coming from hand-carving. 11". Signed. Perfect condition.

The two ways to make a vase into a cameo vase are either acid-etching or wheel-carving. By far, the most labor intensive is the latter. First the colored glass was applied by a second worker while the vase was molten. That step is called padding. Upon cooling, the vase was sent to a carver who manually carved the decoration from top to bottom. There is no acid-etching in this vase at all. It's totally wheel-carved and incredible. Nice size at 11¾" tall. Signed. Mint condition.

This candlelamp base is for the electric version.  (There are three versions -- candle, kerosene and electric.)  The hole is original from the factory for passing the wire through.  The iridescence on this example is exceptional.  Signed.  Mint condition.  (#50921)

The workmanship and beauty of this carved chalice is astonishing. Let me explain. First the three individual parts had to be hand-blown and assembled while the glass was molten. Then while still molten, the green glass was added. It then was iridized while hot. On cooling, it was transferred to a master craftsman, who meticulously carved all the detail in the grape leaves and clusters, as well as the leaf and vine decoration on the stem. Tiffany Cypriote vases were recreations of ancient Roman glass that was dug out of the ground.  Sometimes the results were mediocre and sometimes exceptional, but all of them rare.  I can say with assurance that this example is the BEST Cypriote vase I've ever owned.  The workmanship and the color are fabulous!  It's for the very best collections.  6¼" tall.  Signed.  Mint condition.

Most Tiffany floriform compotes have 5 flutes and are considerably smaller than this superb example.  It has 8 flutes, with a height of 7" and a diameter of 8½".  The decoration on the body is a green pulled feather.  The interior has an excellent stretch glass, gold iridescent finish.  The foot is also gold iridescent.  Just a superior example.  Signed.  Mint condition.

What a delightful mini vase this is! I bought it from the same collection as the paperweight vase I recently listed. This one is 3" tall, in mint condition, and signed 9872E L.C.T. Favrile. It has strong color and great contrast. It's one of the cutest Tiffany mini vases I've had in a long time!

I've been lucky to be able to buy some great Tiffany Favrile vases from one of the best collections in the US. This example is an important decorated vase with hooked feather decorations.
