Tiffany Favrile, Floriform Decorated Vase
Every once in a while I'm fortunate to get the opportunity to buy select Tiffany Favrile vases from one of the best collections in the United States. This vase and 3405100 came from this collection.
This great floriform vase is an early example, from 1896. It's more subtle than many later vases. The decoration is gold pulled feather against opalescent white, below the cup. The cup is fringed with five flutes, regularly spaced. The top of the cup is gold iridescent. The foot is decorated with very subtle pulled feather decoration against a translucent background with opalescent spears. You have to look closely to see it.
The vase leans slightly, which is not uncommon for early vases. Many people like the fact that it gives the vase personality! The engraved signature underneath reads L.C.T. F355. The condition is excellent.
It's museum-quality and deserves to go into a great collection!
