It doesn't get much more rare or desirable than Blackbird decoration on Daum vases. This example is an exceptional miniature vase, in a classical long-neck variety, 2½" tall. It's got great detail and color. Signed. Mint condition.

Daum marine vases vary in quality, depending on the artist who painted them. This example was painted by AR, one of their more talented artists. It's got fabulous color and detail. The shape is called pillow because it's oval, like a pillow.

This shape comes in three sizes, the first a miniature about 1½" tall, the second a medium size, 3¼" tall, and the largest 5" tall. This example is the intermediate 3¼" version. Signed in black enamel underneath Daum Nancy, together with the Cross of Lorraine and the artist's initials "AR". Mint condition.

There are a few Daum decorations that are the cream of the crop. Swan decoration is one of them. This little rectangle is a beauty, with lovely decoration of a swan in a pond. Beautiful color and detail. Excellent condition. Signed.

This is such a lovely example of Daum's marine scenes. It has great color and wispy lines in the background. 5" tall. Signed in enamel on the underside Daum Nancy, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Daum doesn't get much better than an applied and wheel-carved dragonfly. The glass was molten applied and then hand-carved by an artisan. The result is a realistic, 3-dimensional dragonfly flying above a pond with flowers and leaves. How cool is that? 5½" x 5½". Engraved signature underneath DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Daum's Farm scene is one of the rarest and most desirable of all decorations. And this example is special. It was painted by B.S., Daum's best artist, and it shows. The color and details are masterful. It's 14" tall, signed by Daum and artist signed B.S. It's one of the most beautiful Daum vases I've ever owned. Mint condition. FOR THE BEST COLLECTIONS!

Sweet peas have lovely flowers, as beautifully depicted on this special-shaped vase on all four sides. The techique is acid-etching, followed by hand-painted enameling. It results in highly-detailed, realistic flowers. The rectangular-shaped mouth is moderately rare and desirable.

The cameo signature DAUM NANCY, is acid-etched in the background, together with the Cross of Lorraine. The vase measures 4" tall x 7" long x 3" wide -- a perfect cabinet size. The condition is mint.

Daum liked this particular red scene, so they produced it on a variety of shapes and sizes. This example has an elegant shape, in a perfect cabinet size, 8". The color is strong and the detail is superb. Signed in enamel on the side of the vase, DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Martelé backgrounds in glass were meant to simulate hammered metal surfaces. Since glass can't be hammered, the effect had to be created by hand-carving each and every "dent". It makes for a beautiful effect on this lovely 7" Daum floral vase. Signed underneath with a fancy engraved and gilded signature. Mint condition.

Daum Peacock Feather vases are very sophisticated because of the difficult techniques used to produce them. Most of the work on the bowl is standard acid-etching, but not the centers of the feathers. The light blue and dark blue glass was applied when the glass was molten, then pressed into the bowl on the marver. The process is called padding, which makes for special vases. I only get one or two Peacock Feather items yearly and they sell very quickly. This example measures 3½" tall x 6¾" diameter. Mint condition.

Daum Nancy items with applied and wheel-carved insects are important and sophisticated. The insects were applied with molten glass, with a piece of colored metal foil in the middle.  After the box cooled, a glass artist carved the bugs, complete with legs that extend into the box itself. The metal foil reflects in the bugs, giving them nice color. The same for the cabochons. They were carved and faceted by wheel-carving. This box has an amazing three insects and two cabochons. It's museum-quality. Nice size at 4½" wide x 5" long. Engraved signature underneath. Mint condition.

Winter scenics were very popular when they were new, so they're not rare. The good news is that they're equally popular today, so they're desirable. This 6" diameter pinched bowl is a lovely example, with excellent detail and great color. The shape is classically Daum, with pinched sides. Signed in black enamel on the side. Mint condition.

Daum produced many more floral vases than scenic vases, so it's nice to to be able to offer any scenic vase for sale. However, the quality varies quite a bit. Some Daum scenic vases are acid-etched only and lack the color and detail that was achieved by the combination of acid-etching and hand-painted enameling. This example is quite special with superb color and detail. At 15", it's a substantial vase. Black enamel signature on the foot, Daum Nancy and the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

There are two basic types of Daum Nancy scenic vases  -- acid-etched only and acid-etched with enameling. There is a significant difference in appearance and quality, so I rarely buy vases that are only acid-etched.

This example is exactly what I look for -- a beautiful scene with incredible detail that can only be achieved by the addition of hand-painted and fired details. There is tremendous depth in this vase, with internal mottling for the clouds and water. It's just gorgeous and big, at 12" tall.

There's so much going on in this wonderful Daum vase, I don't know where to begin, so here goes. First it's beautiful to look at, with the gorgeous color and detail of the berries and thorns. The extra layer of lavender glass below the purple adds opacity and contrast. The wheel-carved martelé texture toward the bottom is an extra flourish that nicely adds to the attractiveness of the vase. The vase is moderately large, 12" tall x 9" diameter and has a presence. Signed "DAUM NANCY FRANCE" together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Daum Nancy scenic vases are always lovely, including this example with superior color and detail, especially in the trees and background. The blue and yellow mottling in the water give it a real 3-D quality. Signed in black enamel underneath, "DAUM NANCY", together with the Cross of Lorraine and the artist's initials "HP". Nice cabinet size at 6½". Mint condition.

Daum made tumblers in three sizes; miniature, mini (3½") and full-size (5"). This example of the very desirable summer scene is the mini version. It has beautiful detail and color. Signed in enamel on the underside Daum Nancy, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

White flowers (in this case Coyote Tobacco flowers) are rare subject matter for Daum Nancy. The result is a vibrant, colorful, floral design with a superb level of detail and beauty. This could only be achieved with both the techniques of acid-etching and hand-painted enameling.

Delightful little Daum Nancy solifleur (bud vase) with decoration of wild orchids and spider webs. Beautifully detailed and colorful. Most bud vases do not have a foot, so this is a rarer shape. 4¼" tall. Acid-etched signature on the base DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

This is another fine example of Daum's miniature winter vases, in a moderately rare shape. 2" tall. Signed. Mint condition.

Daum produced many scenic vases, usually an assortment of designs that they repeated over and over on different shapes. I have never seen this particular scene before, so it's quite rare. It's funny what gets my juices flowing. And seeing something I haven't seen before does it.

The workmanship is outstanding, as well as the colors. The rectangular shape is very desirable. At 5" tall, it's the perfect cabinet size.

Daum Nancy vases with Wild Orchids and Spider Webs decoration are some of the most desirable. When you put this decoration on a very rare shape with 3 applied loop feet, you have a rarity that is museum-quality. The color and detail are superb. 3¼" tall x 4¾" diameter. Gilded signature underneath Daum Nancy, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Any insect adds tremendous interest and value to a Daum Nancy vase. This beautiful mini rose bowl has a swarm of bees. The decoration is quite rare and very desirable. And the rose bowl shape is delightful. The details were all enamel-painted by hand and the decorative bands around the top rim and foot rim were hand-painted with gold. Additionally there are many interesting thumb indentations to add to the elegance of the shape.

A partially effaced gilded signature can be found on the underside. 3" tall x 4" diameter. Mint conditon.

Daum Winter vases are not rare, but they are very desirable and highly collectible. This Winter example is at the front of the pack because of the very rare and desirable flattened shape with delicate turned handles. Most of the time, the shape is neutral to a vase's value, but other times it's very important. This is one of those times. Daum Winter vases don't get any better. 7" tall. Black enamel signature underneath. Mint condition (which is very important with such delicate handles.)

Sometimes the shape of a vase is as important as the subject matter. Such is the case with this bowl with applied handles. Violets are one of the best flowers for Daum Nancy glass and these violets have wonderful color and hand-painted, gilded details.

The bowl measures 5½" across, making it a very nice cabinet size. Gilded signature on the underside DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

This is a superb, colorful Daum rarity. There are very few examples of the techniques used in this vase, mostly mushroom vases, which are all very desirable. After acid was used to etch the basic design, the leaves were all wheel-carved to create intricate details. What's different here is that the leaves were then hand-painted with enamel on top of the carving and then fired. The handles are an added bonus and they too were hand-painted before firing. This vase is museum-quality. Great size at 7¾" tall. Signed DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Fabulous Daum scenic vase! Especially since the decoration is so crisp, with a full scene around the entire circumference. It doesn't get much better than this. Very nice size at 7" tall. Signed DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Vases with applications are rare with sophisticated workmanship. The berries were applied when the glass was molten and the details in the leaves and stems were hand-painted and fired. The colors are strong and the shape is quite nice, slightly squared off, resulting in an octagonal mouth. It's rare and a beauty.  Nice size at 5½" tall x 6¼" diameter. Daum Blackbird vases are very rare and desirable. This example with a long neck is especially fine. 3" tall. Signed DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

This mini inkwell (or covered jar) is a real beauty. The decoration of wild orchids and spider webs is wonderful, with matching decoration on the lid. The detail is superb and the color is vivid. Add some wonderful gilded details (with minimal wear) and you've got a fabulous item. Signed Daum Nancy in gold underneath, together with the Cross of Lorraine. 2¾" tall. Mint condition.

Fabulous Daum Nancy vase with padded and wheel-carved red flowers. 12½" tall. More details and photos later.

When a flower has been padded and wheel-carved, it means that the flower was applied when the glass was molten. On cooling, the details were hand-carved by a master craftsman. This superb example shows the color and detail that can be achieved by these very difficult and sophisticated techniques. It's a little beauty. 5" tall. Signed "Daum Nancy" and the Cross of Lorraine. Swans are one of the best decorations for Daum Nancy vases. This beauty is a 2½" miniature vase with outstanding color and detail. No more need be said. Black enamel signature underneath DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

The term solifleur literally translated from French means lone flower, but in English it's referred to as a bud vase. It's a very desirable shape that is collected by many collectors.

This example is exceptional, with vivid blue cornflowers and black pine cones. The techniques are acid-etching, hand-painted enameling and gilding. Together they create a masterful level of sophistication and beauty.

I'm particularly fond of Daum scenic vases. This example is a mini, only 3" tall, but the best quality, with fantastic detail. 

I rarely know the provenance of anything I sell, but I do on this item. It is from The Glass Collection of King Frederik VIII of Denmark. You can't beat that. It's signed in black enamel on the underside DAUM NANCY, plus the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Violets are not very rare subject matter for Daum Nancy vases, but they are all desirable. One of the qualities that differentiates one example from another is the color. This example has intense color, making it special.

The tumbler shape is also desirable and comes in three sizes -- miniature (2"), mini (3½"), and full size (4¾"). This example is the mini. 

You would be hard pressed to find a finer example. Signed in cameo on the side DAUM NANCY FRANCE, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Gorgeous Daum Nancy vase with poppies. Hand-painted enameled details with gilding, against a shaded green, textured background with stars make for a stunning vase. Gilded signature underneath DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. 4" tall. Mint condition.

Violets are one of the best flowers on Daum Nancy glass. This salt cellar is beautifully decorated with violet flowers and buds. What makes this example special is that the veining in the leaves, the foot and the rim are all gilded. Very few salts have gilded details, making this an exceptional example. As expected, the signature is gilded on the underside Daum Nancy, plus the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Daum's best shape for miniatures is the broken egg. This 1¾" tall birch tree scenic is a real beauty. Great detail and color. Signed underneath in black enamel DAUM NANCY, together with the artist's initials HP and the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

You can't get more desirable or rare than penguins on a Daum Nancy vase. This particular example is artist signed B.S., Daum's best artist, and it shows; it's truly outstanding. 13" tall. Signed Daum Nancy, together with the Cross of Lorraine and the artist's initials. Mint condition. 

Bees are among the best and rarest decorations on Daum Nancy vases. The kicker is that I've never seen one with applied teardrops. It's an exceptionally rare and fine example. 11¾" tall. Signed Daum Nancy in gold on the underside, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition. For the finest collections.

Daum Nancy Rain scenes are rare and very desirable. This example is special. It's a combination night light and perfume burner. The shape is a standard square tumbler, but the workmanship, detail and color are superior. The top is original and converts the tumbler into a perfume burner. Perfumed oil goes into the cup which is in turn warmed by the light of the bulb, creating a fragrant room. It has the original French socket which I will rewire and convert to American standards. It's really wonderful. 6" tall. Signed in black enamel DAUM NANCY plus the Cross of Lorraine. Excellent condition. 

I don't know the biological name for these berries, but they must grow in the Nancy region of France, as Daum often used this decoration. The quality varies from example to example with this one being exceptional. The color, details and contrast are truly outstanding.

I'm assuming the season on this beautiful Daum Nancy pastoral scenic vase is fall as the leaves are brown. Not every tree turns red or yellow in the fall. The detail is outstanding as it was hand-painted by a skilled artist. The techniques were acid-etching followed by hand-painted enameling. Lovely shape with a knop above the foot. Perfect cabinet size at 6½" tall. Black enamel hand-painted signature on the top of the foot, DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition except for a small scratch on the top of the foot which appears to be original to the making and only mentioned for accuracy.

All Daum Nancy Rain scenes are rare and desirable. What makes one example better than another is the color and detail. Collectors especially value strong pink in the background. This example fits the bill with both great color and detail. 3½" tall × 4" diameter. Signed DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine in black enamel. Mint condition. 

Daum Nancy liked to use cyclamen flowers for many of their vases. Makes sense. They're beautiful. This example take the level of sophistication way up because all of the detail int he flowers and background is hand-carved. The technique is called wheel-carving or intaglio-cutting. Only the finest craftsmen had the skill to pull it off successfully. Wheel-carving results in a level of detail that is impossible with acid-etching. The same technique was used to create the martelé texture in the background. Then to add to the sophistication, green handles were applied when the glass was molten, and even they were partially wheel-carved with martelé texture. Even the signature underneath, DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine, is a work of art. It was hand-engraved by the same carver and then gilded to make it stand out. At 9½" tall, it's the perfect cabinet size. Museum quality for the best collections.

Matching pairs of Daum Nancy vases are very difficult to find. This cute mini pair, 2½" tall, with African Violet decoration, is lovely. The techniques were acid-etching, followed by hand-painted enameling. It resulted in pretty color and beautiful detail.

Each has an acid-etched, cameo signature on the side DAUM NANCY, together with the Cross of Lorraine. Mint condition.

Sorry for the poor photographs, but this vase hasn't arrived yet, so I'm using the photos that were sent to me. The vase has all wheel-carved leaves, making for great detail that can only be accomplished with this technique. Very few workers were skilled enough use this technique, making wheel-carved vases rare and more sophisticated. As long as the artist was holding the wheel for carving, why not carve a large, very fancy DAUM NANCY signature on the side, together with the Cross of Lorraine? 7½" tall -- a very nice cabinet size.
