What everyone most wants in a Tiffany 20" Poppy is great color in the flowers. Everything else is secondary. Take a look at the truly fabulous colors here. The red is as rich as it gets, with beautiful striations and occasional swirls of purple. The flower buds are all different, mostly with two tones of blue, brown and green. The background is heavily mottled yellow; the more mottling, the better. The patina on the shade is a 10, with rich brown and green. Next is the condition. Totally original with very few, if any hairline cracks. The shade is properly signed TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1531.
Very few Tiffany shades have reticulated overlay; with the Poppy and the Dragonfly being the two most famous examples. It's a great effect, giving very interesting detail to both the leaves and the flower centers. It's one of the reasons that both designs are very popular.
The 3-legged torpedo base is superb, with an astonishing original patina. The three sockets are all original. The lamp has been professionally rewired. The base is properly signed underneath, 29940 TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK, together with the logo of the Tiffany Glass & Decorating Co.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer example. It's for the best collections, ready to decorate your home!
